About the event

I. Registration and Payment

You can either pay via e-transfer (to Ethanzhang91@hotmail.com) or with cash on tournament day. To complete registration, please fill out the form below OR select your ticket type on our website (scroll down).

If you are paying before September 10th, you will be enjoying extra 10 dollar discount for all ticket types. If you choose to register by selecting ticket types on our website, click on “add coupon code” after choosing your ticket types and click “checkout”. Input the coupon code “EarlyBird” and enjoy the discount! This coupon code will expire on September 10th.



If you have played in 1st Steinitz Memorial Chess Championship, you can enjoy EXTRA $5 discount by inputting the coupon code “1stTournament”.



II. Basic Info

  1. Tournament works according to “FIDE arbiter manual” edited by FIDE arbiter commission in 2022. Players will be impartially paired using a computer.

  2. Players will be divided into 3 sections based on CFC ratings:

A) U1400 section (UNRATED) B) U1800 section C) Crown section (rated 1800+).

  1. Male and female players will NOT be competing separately.

  2. Registration starts at 9:30AM Start time: 10:00 AM. Please arrive on time. You will be automatically forfeited if you are 20 minutes late to your game

  3. End time: 4:30 PM for the U1400 section and 6:30 PM for the U1800 and crown sections.


III. Tournament Format

  1. Time control

    1. 15 minutes + 10 seconds for U1400 section

    2. 30 minutes + 15 seconds for U1800 and Crown sections

  2. 5 rounds, Swiss format



IV. Prize and Medals

1. For the U1400 Section, trophies will be awarded to the champion and medals for the 2,3,4 th places. Multiple medals will be awarded if players share the same score.

2. For the U1800 Section and Crown Section, prize money will be given to the top three with trophies for the champion and medals for the 2,3,4th players. Prize money will be equally shared within players with the same score in the top three.

3. Prize money (If more than 50 players participate):

U1800: $350-$225-$100

Crown Section: $400-$275-$150

if less than 50 players participate in each section, prize money will be cut in half.



V. Registration Fees

  1. U1400 section (unrated) : $25/player

  2. U1800 & Crown section : $45/player

  3. Play-up Fee: $30/player (if the player’s rating is 100 below the requirement)

  4. Seniors (60+) : $20/player for U1400, $35/player for U1800 and Crown.

  5. Students: $20/player for U1400, $35/player for U1800 and Crown

  6. Titled players: $30/player

If a player qualifies for more than one discount, the lowest fee applies.



U1800 and Crown sections may be combined depending on number of registrants!

If the sections are combined, the prize money of the two sections will be added together to attain the average.
