OVERVIEW

The World High School Chess League (WHSCL) is an international online chess event that brings together talented high school and middle school players from across the globe. Participants will register under a high school and compete individually in a global Swiss-style tournament — their school’s top three scores will contribute to a global team ranking.

Whether you’re an aspiring grandmaster or simply passionate about representing your school, this is your chance to compete, connect, and make history.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

  1. Players must be enrolled in a government-approved high school or middle school; individual clubs or organizations are not allowed.

  2. Players must register under their school name

  3. Schools with 3+ players will automatically qualify for team ranking (top three scores combined).

  4. Schools with 6+ players will be split into multiple different teams of 3. (eg. XXX High School Team 1 and xxx High School Team 2). Please submit two different registration forms. Players in the same school but on different teams may compete against each other.

  5. Participants in schools with fewer than 3 players can still sign up under their school name but their scores will only be ranked in the individual category.

SECTIONS

  1. Individual category: ALL registered players will be qualified for individual rankings, regardless of the number of participants in their school. Awards will be given to the top three individuals among all schools.

  2. Team category:

Schools with 3+ players will automatically qualify for team rankings; the final ranking will be determined by the combined scores of the top three players in that school. Awards will be given to the top three schools.
